Ngeh's wife thanks couple who rang doorbell to alert them of fire

Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham’s wife Cheok Foong Ling today thanked the couple who rang her doorbell to warn them that their house was on fire early this morning.

According to China Press, the couple was brought to the scene this morning for their statements over an alleged act of arson on Ngeh’s home in Perak.

The Fire and Rescue Department’s forensics team has also taken the couple’s statements.

“The couple who passed by our house and rang the doorbell are my two angels!” Cheok was quoted as saying.

“I have extended my thanks to this couple,” she added.

Earlier, Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed that the fire was suspected to be an act of arson and noted that the investigation is being carried out from multiple angles.

Attack on MP’s house condemned

There were no casualties reported in the 2.50am incident but three cars were affected, including a Mercedes E300, which was almost completely razed.

Also partially burnt were a Honda CRV, and Toyota Hilux, as well as the house’s porch roof.

Ngeh and his wife were reportedly asleep during the incident before they were awakened by a passerby who rang their doorbell and alerted them of the fire.

Ngeh lodged a report on the matter at the Ayer Tawar police station.

This morning, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke condemned the incident.

PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari also denounced the alleged attack, calling it unacceptable.

Pejuang information chief Rafique Rashid decried the alleged attack as well, adding that his party does not permit criminal attacks regardless of differences in political opinion.

Ngeh recently courted controversy for his suggestion to include non-Muslim experts in the special committee to review the jurisdiction of the Syariah Court.

Following widespread backlash, the Perak DAP leader apologised and withdrew his proposal.
